Mexican gambling laws are due for a shake up

Today we have witnessed a breakthrough with the Mexican Gambling laws. The governing Institutional Revolutionary Party plan to propose reforms in the legislative session that has just got under way.

With the current Mexican gambling laws casino players and gamblers have to use foreign based online casino and sporstbook if they want to try their luck online.

In a near future we will see these laws get up for revision, but it remains to be see what direction the government will take.

According to reports, however, the government is likely to follow New Jersey’s lead by restricting the award of licenses to land based casinos. This move could see a number of partnerships spring up between Mexican casinos and foreign online specialists looking to tap into a populous market.

This latest new from the gambling community in Mexico also reveals that the law will contain measures against underage gambling, problem gambling and money laundering. There is no doubt that the Mexican regulations have been in need of a shake up for some time, something that the government has obviously identified.

In this new suggestion of gambling laws we will also see a new set up of a new National Gaming Commission that would oversee the licensing, regulation and enforcement of the new bill, as well as dealing with consumer complaints. If this comes true it will be the first change of Mexican gambling regulations since the 2005.

Today there is around 400 legal land based casinos in Mexico so the online casino market is there and we believe if this comes true there will be a rush to online casinos in the near future. The government is surely keen to take advantage of the profits these casinos could bring in.
